Meals & Fun at Senior CentersDid you know that hot meals (and seasonally appropriate meals) are available for you at local senior centers? Our goal is to make sure our elders are getting the nutrients and food they need. Also, our meals meet a third of seniors’ daily dietary requirements.*
To dine with us free of charge, you must be 60 years of age or older and determined to be eligible through the state’s Consumer Assessment process. Just give us a call at (575)527-9845 or show up for a meal to begin this process. If you are eligible, your spouse may also attend and have meals, even if they are under 60.
People with disabilities, regardless of age, who reside with or accompany eligible individuals, and volunteers under the age of 60 are also eligible for a meal during meal hours. Guests are always welcome to dine with us for the cost of the meal (posted near serving area).
In addition to meals, there is fun to share at the senior centers. There are activities before, during, and after senior lunch time. Depending on the site, activities may include billiards, games, sewing groups, arts and crafts, and puzzles. It’s up to you and your peers to organize your own activities.
Services are offered at the following senior centers: Mesilla, Dona Ana, Radium Springs, Hatch, Anthony, Chaparral, and Mesilla.
Meals Delivered to Your Home
Can’t make it to one of the senior centers for a meal? We deliver meals to seniors 60 years of age or older who are unable to leave their homes due to a disabling condition.
To be eligible, you must be 60 years of age or older, and be unable to leave your home due to a disabling condition. Your spouse may also receive a delivered meal if the provider believes that is in your (the eligible senior’s) best interest, regardless of your spouse’s age or condition. Individuals with disabilities who live in the home with an eligible senior may also receive a home delivered meal. Delivered meals also meet the DRI nutrition requirements.*
Do you need a way to get to appointments and do your shopping? Good news! We offer transportation for people 60 years and older, to and from medical appointments and health care services, to various social services offices in the county, and to our meal program sites throughout Doña Ana County. We even offer transportation for shopping and recreational activities through the Mesilla and Anthony senior centers. All sites have the ability to transport seniors to and from lunch.
Doctor’s visits and grocery shopping runs are usually available from 8:15am to 10:00 am. Pickup for senior lunches starts at 10:45am and meals are usually served 11:30am to 12:15pm. Return trips are provided following the meal.
Per the policies of the Area Agencies on Aging, transportation services are limited to eligible individuals who have no other means of transportation or people who are unable to use existing transportation.
For transportation, please call ahead for appointments!
