Adelante offers day habilitation services for people with development disabilities in addition to other physical and mental disabilities. Those programs are referred to as our Community Options programs. More information on Community Options is below. Adelante also started an innovative new program in 2007 called Arts & Animals that incorporates animals and fine art in a therapeutic, educational environment. The agency also offers day services for seniors. More information on that program can be found on the Seniors page.

Community Options

Adelante’s Community Options program teach the life skills necessary to allow people with disabilities to live their lives to the fullest as contributing members of the community.

The program focuses on the basic needs of the people we serve, helping them to maintain good health and make good choices. Adelante provides an environment that is safe while ensuring personal choice and freedom. Individuals are respected and supported, and person-centered planning empowers people to set and achieve their personal goals.

Community Options teaches a variety of self-help skills such as eating and personal hygiene. Some people may be involved in gaining greater control over their physical environment; how to cross a room, how to navigate a store, how to cross the street. To help people avoid social barriers, a strong emphasis is placed on the development of social skills such as meal etiquette, purchasing, and involvement in the community. Adelante also offers many areas of interest exploration on-site including cooking and computers. There are also music lessons that take place in our locations through a cooperative agreement with New Mexico Special Orchestra

Community Options is the agency’s largest program and an area of expertise for Adelante. In addition, we provide services for people who are severely disabled and medically fragile. At Adelante, everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore their communities.
